The Mexican President has called for a partial shutdown of the Mexican economy for five days. People are told to stay indoors because there’s no safer place to protect yourself against this swine flu than inside your own home. Transport are told to operate, supermarkets will open and the hospitals will remain open as well.
The World Health Organisation is saying that we’re at that higher alert level, one step away from a pandemic. There’s confusion about the death toll. It is reported that around 180-odd people have died, and then it is heard again that it’s 70-odd people that are officially confirmed dead. The Mexican Government yesterday had that figure much, much lower. Many people are confused, they don’t know who to believe, they don’t know what figures to trust. The Mexican Government says it acted quickly to tackle this swine flu outbreak.
